I got to the hospital and she was awake and smiling, like she knew today was a special day! I got her dressed in the outfit that Daddy picked out for her and then we waited. And waited. It seemed like forever but it was really only about 15 minutes before they came to let us know we were waiting on two things before we could go. One was insurance related so they weren't going to make us wait over that one so as soon as the other was taken care of we could go.
So we waited. And waited. The PT came and recast her feet one more time and then made them in to splints while we waited. It was the longest 2.5 hours ever :)
We finally got everything taken care of and settled and then started loading up...and then the nurses had to come say bye while waited (im)patiently. THEN I got to learn how to juggle the car seat, oxygen tank and monitor. Based on that experience, we'll be staying home a lot!
I just thought the 2.5 hours took forever - the drive from SA to NB was never ending! It's terrifying enough to be driving in SA with your newborn (still a newborn at 12 weeks right??? Infant??) but she still wasn't thrilled with her car seat so she was throwing a fit which made the monitor go off for high heart rate and then she fell asleep so it went off because her breathing got to shallow and then she woke up because the alarm was going off and threw a fit.... Longest. Car trip. Ever.
But we made it. And we got her settled in. We got her oxygen situation settled out. She refused to take a nap because there was SO much going on she didn't want to miss and then finally crashed from exhaustion. And I wanted to also... But by then it was time to go get the Bigs!
They were a littttttle bit surprised. And there may have been a few happy tears. And we may all be sitting on our bed doing homework so we can watch Baby Girl sleep. Our room has gone from off limits, mom and dad only to family room. I'll take it :)
