Dealing with disappointment - Feb 18

Not extubatung today. The ENT said that she's comfortable doing it bedside instead of in the OR, but Baby Girl's doctor said if she's going to do that then she wants to give her a few doses of steroids to make sure there isn't any swelling before it happens. So it's been pushed to "sometime after her (ENT) 8:00 procedure" tomorrow. So now I'm having flashbacks to last time when it would be "just a little bit longer".

In the meantime, Baby Girl has such a high metabolism that she's burning through the sedatives and pain meds quicker than they're allowed to give them to her, so 5-10 minutes before the end of the cycle she's awake, irritated, uncomfortable and can't do anything about it. Five minutes is an eternity. They've had to swaddle her hands almost behind her back because she keeps trying to pull at the tube (smart girl). Her PT stopped by to see how she was doing and seemed quite proud that she was able to 1) reach the tube at the angle it is and 2) grasp at it with her hand...I have to agree :)

So it was another long day of sitting and trying to comfort her and keep her still.
