Surgery Day - Feb 17

Today started off an hour earlier than usual but at least we got to come up here knowing we were for sure having the surgery! The nurse finally called me back at about 9:45 last night to let us know it was for sure happening!

Baby Girl was wide awake when we got there and not very happy - she got woken up for the IV and didn't go back to sleep after that so she was tired and cranky (after not napping well the day before) AND they stopped her feedings at 2:00 am so she was hungry AND the hand she had just figured out how to get into her mouth had an IV in it that didn't taste nearly as good as her own skin :)

We spent some time with her while we were waiting for the surgical team to come get her, and we waited. And waited. Finally at about 11 we went downstairs (to wait) and then they took her back.

It wasn't very long after that when the ENT came out to let us know the anesthesiologist had a hard time intubating so they stepped in and got the tube in, checked everything and it all looked fine so there shouldn't be any issues except maybe a little swelling when it's time to extubate. About an hour later the surgeon came out to let us know it went well - no issues with the surgery itself, they would move her back upstairs and let the doctors in NICU and the ENT decide when to extubate.

They ran some tests to see how her oxygen levels were holding and decided they will extubate at the 24 hour mark, so tomorrow afternoon it should be gone if it all holds steady. They'll take her back to the OR to extubate in a controlled environment. Until then, they'll keep her sedated enough that she's not moving around so the tube doesn't irritate her throat.

Thank you all so much for the prayers, comments and support today!
