The Shed Project: Trench Digging

Have you ever dug a trench? Sounds simple enough - 10 inches down, 6 inches across, about 40 feet long. Shouldn't be a problem right?!?! When I lived in west Texas, you were digging in sand. Every now and then you'd get a hard patch of dense sand. Turn the water on it, let it soak in, good to go.

First major task for the Shed Project: dig a trench for the sewage line. Simple. Ha.

Here's the trench right now:

All that white stuff? Rock. We made it about 4 feet before we hit the first one. It goes from the edge of the picture to the bend in the trench. Then the next rock starts.

When that rock ends, the tree roots kick in. Then rock. Then root. Then rock under root. I think you get the picture.

Almost makes the trench worth it. Almost.

Tomorrow, the sledge hammer and I get to know each other a little better, the second trench for the electric line gets started AND finished, and we lay pipe. Then put all the dirt back where it came from.
