The antibiotics did a lot of work over night and her chest x-ray looked much more clear this morning. They did get test results back and the infection is localized to her lungs - not in her urine or blood which would have been an indication of meningitis (glad they didn't tell me that yesterday!) She is breathing much easier though, now that they have been able to break up some of the fluid.
They put another IV in her scalp so that they could take the one out of her foot that has been there since Monday. She's still getting frequent doses of morphine and a sedative to keep her comfortable but she was awake for quite a bit today. She looks like a druggie - eyes are kinda glassy and she's focused on the flashing lights on her monitors, but it was good to see her eyes!
They've still got her on IV fluids, but also started her feeds back around lunch. Her body was finally able to pass out all of the gas that had built up so they know her digestive system is still functioning.
Dr. G said if she continues on the same level of progress, we can look at getting the tube out on Monday, so please pray for a good weekend!
Thanks for sticking with us and keeping Baby Girl in your prayers!
