Dr. G commented about her weight loss over the last week, and even though she knows a lot of it has to do with the surgery, ventilator, being sick, etc. Baby Girl hasn't really shown signs of any gain in the last few days so they're adding something (I forgot to ask!) to her milk to help her get more calories. They've also increased her feeding again to 60 mL per hour. She's being more cautious with the increases this go round to make sure she's tolerating the increase and timing well. So far she's completely digesting everything they're giving her so no problems there!
Dr. G also said they're going to start weaning her off of the nasal cannula! Right now she's at 5 liters, once she's down to 2 liters we'll start working with the bottle again, and then shortly after she'll be off of it altogether.
We had a lot of visitors today! The Respiratory Therapist came by - and Baby Girl still pitched a fit about her breathing treatment. Shocker. The RT that's been working with her most of the time is retiring Thursday after 33 years with the hospital! We'll miss you Ms. Mary - well I will, not sure about Baby Girl!
We also got visits from the Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapists! Dr. G has written into her orders for them to be able to start working with her again!!! So the PT started back with her stretches and seeing where her range of motion is now. She was concerned at first that not having any work for a couple of weeks would cause her to go back a few steps, but was really glad with the range she was able to maintain, especially on the arm that was strapped down for the arterial line and another IV. The ST and OT worked with her for just a bit with the pacifier to see how her suck was doing (about the same) and gave her a few drops of milk to start getting her used to the taste so that when we get ready for the bottle she's ready for it to.
Lastly, I really like being right:
We're back in a "big girl" crib!!! The nurse was looking for an empty one when I got there so we started out the day on a GREAT note and went up from there!
