Got to the hospital and spent a little of time with Baby Girl before the ENT came to explain the procedure to me - and get consent signatures - then the anesthesiologist came by to explain her part - and get consent signatures - and then it was time to go! I got to go back to the wonderful waiting room for a little over two hours.
ENT came out and said everything looked good - airway was clear, vocal chords looked good, there was a little bit of damage on the inside of her throat (some scratching) from the intubation but nothing that wouldn't heal in a couple of days without the tube irritating it. He said she did really well with everything, but had a build up of CO2 in her lungs so they wanted to give her some oxygen through a mask and see if that helped clear it out, wait about 30 minutes and then see if she was able to keep it out.
Got back up to the NICU and she still had the mask on, and a plastic piece (oral airway) in her mouth that was helping keep her airway open until she came off the sedation completely. They said once it wore off she would spit it out - she didn't, she was too busy sucking on it like a pacifier :)
By the end of the day, they has taken away the oral airway and replaced it with her pacifier but she still had the mask on - it works similar to a CPAP machine: it provides enough pressure to keep her lungs slightly inflated but she was breathing 100% on her own. They had decreased the oxygen in it down to the lowest setting. Hopefully that will be gone when I get there in the morning!
Best part of the day: I got to hold my baby for the first time in 8 days!!!!
So the second month is off to a good start in my books :)

Thankful to God that everything went so well! Continuing to pray for healing so that your sweet girl can get home to her family. Happy one month, Lexi! Praying that month two is full of blessings of good health.
