Longest. Day. Ever. - Jan 13

We got to the hospital a little earlier than usual today (thanks to a back road suggestion!) to get some snuggle time in with Baby Girl before they came and got her.

Then we waited. The surgeon came and talked to us. And we waited. And 10:30 came and went and we waited. And waited. And I don't do well with waiting. They finally came and got us and took us down to the pre-surgery waiting area where we met and talked with the anesthesiologist. Then waited some more. And she kept sleeping through it all.

The surgery ended up taking about 2 hours - they finally came to let us know they were done at 2:00. Everything went well - her diaphragm is now almost completely flat on that side and out of the way. They had to do an open surgery so she's got about a 2 inch incision on her side that they'll watch over the next couple of days. The surgeon said the trickiest part was waiting for the anesthesiologist to intubate her - She's got such a small airway it was difficult for them to get the tube in.

They will keep her intubated for today to assist her in breathing until she's comfortable enough and recovered enough that the doctor feels it's safe to take it out. There's a possibility they'll call in an ENT to assist in taking it out to make sure everything is clear.

Thank you so much for all of your prayers today and your continued prayers as she recovers and heals!

By the way, her hands are pretty relaxed and open when she's knocked out so she's partially the one keeping them all closed up :)
